This is a fantastic collection of gruesome and disturbing short stories.  But what really sets it apart from most short story collections is that they are contained within and a part of the entire book.  I don’t believe I have ever seen this before.

White Walls and Straitjackets follows Crystal and Harry as they are driving to visit Crystal’s sister.  As they make their journey, Harry finds a book in the glove compartment and reads the disturbing tales to Crystal as she drives.  This was an inventive device that made these stories read like a full length book.  It creating a unifying factor that brought everything together.

Now, with regards to the writing…David Owain Hughes is a disturbed individual and has created some stories that will shock and appall you.  If you’re anything like me, you will be looking for more books from David Owain Hughes.  He has pushed the limits of sexual violence and has created a fantastic story to leave his readers wanting more.

Crystal and Harry are a fantastic duo.  Their banter goes from comedic to completely inappropriate to clinically insane.  They are very well developed and I think that there could be more from Crystal and Harry in the future, and if so, I’ll be there!
