2 Book Lovers Reviews

I finally got around to reading The Opportunist, which had been on my to-be-read list for a very long time. Is it really a romance novel? Well, there are characters who claim to love other characters. What I can say without any hesitation is that the series (Love Me with Lies) is aptly named because I never really knew what to believe, who to trust, and the lies were plentiful.

Olivia is undoubtedly a liar. I did, however, feel sorry for her character. Did she do some pretty despicable things? Sure. Did she do them in the name of love for Caleb? So, she says. Her love/obsession with Caleb was intense to say the least. She was a complicated character who seemed to thrive in messy situations. And messy situations were what she found herself in most of the time.

Olivia may have found her match, though. Caleb’s new girlfriend, Leah, may just be the redheaded equivalent to her. Both women claim to love Caleb, but where does his heart truly lie? To be perfectly honest, I didn’t trust him either. There was really no character in this book (maybe besides the old guy from the ice cream parlor), who seemed to have a lot of redeeming qualities. Do I need to like the characters in a book that I’m reading? Not one little iota, especially when they’re like this.

There are two more books in this series, and I am more than a little curious to see how their stories all play out. Can they get any more despicable, underhanded, manipulative? This is a Tarryn Fisher book, so my answer to that is Oh, yes, they can!
