As soon as I read the synopsis for Love Sick, I jumped at the opportunity to read it. Described as Grey’s Anatomy meets The Hating Game, I had a feeling that this was going to be just the book for me.

Grace Rose is a first-year resident in an OB-GYN program. She is hardworking, studious, and has earned her spot in this program, despite what the circling rumors imply. Unfortunately for Grace, these rumors seem to not only be sticking but making their own rounds throughout the program. When she goes to a party at the beginning of her program, she is already nervous and stressed to meet her fellow residents and partygoers, she certainly doesn’t expect be avoided or to hear people slinging these insulting rumors about her.

Julian Santini has his own insecurities about his place in the OB-GYN program. When he meets Grace at the party, he is immediately smitten, but when he discovers how she “gained” her place, he is less than impressed, no matter how attracted he is to her. Needless to say, Julian and Grace didn’t really make a great impression on each other, and this just escalates as they work together.

Of course, with any good enemies-to-lovers romance you have to have that animosity and simmering attraction between the characters, and Deidra Duncan delivered exactly that. With the chapters alternating between Grace and Julian, the readers get a chance to know each of the characters and see exactly what is going on in their minds.

With long work shifts, study sessions, and pressure galore, the tension between the characters grows. Love Sick is a slow-burn romance that is set in a very high-stress environment. Not only was this a wonderful debut novel, but it was written by an author who is a doctor in this field. It was an intense romance that felt very authentic.

I am already looking forward to reading more by Deidra Duncan in the near future.
