I feel like a latecomer to this series. I’ve reached a point in my life where I am hesitant about starting a series, I find myself drawn more and more to the one and done. A series is a commitment, the first book may or may not stand as a full complete work. I always ask myself: will the author keep up the pace and keep me invested all the way to the end? Well, so far, I am not disappointed.
Brown has created such a rich cast of characters that the reader really cannot predict what will come next. Who is safe? Where will this go? Three books in and I have not been let down at all.
That being said, Morning Star felt like it could have been the end. Was this intended to be a trilogy? I love a trilogy, you know that by the end of the third book you should be satisfied. And I am. However, Brown has more to say about Darrow’s story; at a certain point I need to trust the author that the story needs more, and I trust Brown on this.
It says something about the author that we’ve gotten to this point. I’m invested. He has created a world that is so developed, where I have established connections with his characters. I, alongside Darrow, have enjoyed victories and suffered losses. Barring a major shift, I am in this until the end.
