You had me at Craigslist. I’ve seen enough episodes of Worst Roommate Ever to know that nothing good comes from Craigslist.

The Caretaker is a story with mystery piled upon mystery. Filled with bad decisions leading to worse decisions. It is exactly what a horror fan could want; a cornucopia of opportunities to scream, “What the hell are you doing?! Don’t do that!”

You could say that The Caretaker is part of the haunted house genre or trope, while it is really so much more. The important part of working within such a well-established trope is making it unique, going where no one has gone before. In that respect, Kliewer’s story is a resounding success. He did a fabulous job of building the story, the suspense and the action. There was great flow and development. At every turn the ante was upped.

I went with the Audible version of The Caretaker and I have to tell you that Corey Brill did an outstanding job. Her narration fully played into the tension of Kliewer’s story. She kept my attention riveted to the story.

The Caretaker has added Marcus Kliewer to my ever-growing list of authors to keep an eye out for. I want more stories like this.
