You just can’t go wrong with a novel by Jewel E. Ann. To be honest, I didn’t even read the synopsis of this book before selecting it. Based on my prior experiences with her books, she just gets it right.
I am a sucker for a grumpy, brooding character who is averse to being in a committed relationship. There is just something about the challenge and watching them slowly unravel and fall in love. Of course, Calvin Fitzgerald was a great character who fit this mold to a T. He is only committed to his career as a smoke jumper, he has no time for relationships that take more than one night.
When a new roommate enters Calvin’s life, well, she is a little hard for him to ignore. Calvin and Jamie had incredible banter. Their dialogue was spot on. Between the quips, the jabs, and the flirting, I was just waiting for their time to come. For me, it is always the anticipation that keeps my interest in a romantic story. Jewel E. Ann kept the anticipation brewing and I was one hundred percent invested in it.
Jamie wasn’t exactly looking for love either, though. As a travel nurse, she was only looking to stay in Montana for six months and then it was going to be on to the next work location. This was her way of seeing the country, and she had no interest in putting down roots until she had seen her fair share.
Calvin and Jamie were wonderful characters, but in all honesty, the whole cast of characters were equally good. From their other two roommates to their colleagues and friends, the characters brought a lot of humor and goodness to this book.
From Air was another great read by one of my favorite authors. She delivered a romance that was mixed with wonderful banter, chemistry galore and, of course, she provided a twist that, even though I thought I had it all figured out, apparently, I didn’t. I do love that about her books.
