It’s the most wonderful time of the year to read this novel. This novel had a little bit of everything: enemies-to-lovers, romantic comedy, and a mystery.
Maggie Chase and Ethan Wyatt are authors who have had their share of success. When they get invited to visit the sprawling English estate of one of their biggest fans, they are shocked to learn that the fan is none other than Eleanor Ashely, a famous mystery author who had penned nearly one hundred novels.
With a select group of guests invited to Eleanor’s home at Christmastime, Maggie and Ethan can’t help but wonder why they were included in the mix. When a blizzard hits, leaving whiteout conditions, a damaged bridge on the main road, and Eleanor missing, the guests are at a loss for what could’ve happened to their host. How does one simply vanish from their own home in a snowstorm?
Amidst all of the speculation, Maggie and Ethan are on the lookout for any clues that could lead to Eleanor’s disappearance. Being mystery and thriller authors, they have concocted their share of mysterious situations, and they are trying to figure out this latest real-life mystery. But while they are in search of clues, they are also spending a great deal of time together, getting to know each other better, getting under each other’s skin, and having a great deal of wonderful banter (which is always fun).
This book was just a fun story to read before the holidays. It had an entertaining mystery, a wonderful setting (I mean, who wouldn’t want to stay at an estate that has an outdoor maze?!), and main characters who had me laughing and rooting for them right from the beginning. Even with all of the lighthearted moments and banter, the author still gave some depth to her characters, allowing the reader to get the backstory on Maggie and Ethan. I appreciated that.
The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year was definitely a wonderful time!
