Have you ever had second thoughts about something? Felt like you could be making a big mistake? Yes, I think we can all agree that having doubts is a normal part of life, but what if it was right before your wedding day? When you are right down to the wire, the rehearsal has taken place, the venue is prepared, and you are awaiting the “big day,” it would be a scary feeling to start wondering what-if.
Audrey has a great guy in Josh. They may be opposites, but they complement each other. Josh is stable, reliable, handsome, kind, the whole package, really. Audrey has jumped around from job to job, she never really committed to anything for too long, except for Josh. When she sees a man from her past, a man that she had thought could have been “The One,” well, she thinks it could be a sign. That and all of the other freaky things that have been occurring, all just lead to the fact that this marriage might not be meant to be.
I enjoyed the back and forth in the timelines from present to past. This enables the reader to see Audrey’s life as she is about to marry Josh and goes back to when she met Fred, the man who could have been. This only enhanced the book, in my opinion. I wanted to see how she met Josh. I wanted to witness her connection to Fred and to see what happened. Was I Team Josh or Team Fred? Of course, I had my own personal preference, but it wasn’t my story to tell.
With plenty of backstory, humor, heart, and angst, Before I Do was an entertaining story that kept me engaged throughout its entirety. There was more to it than simply the romance, too. It was a story of finding your way, rekindling relationships, and about discovering what will make you happy.
Sophie Cousens’ books always make their way onto my to-be-read list. As soon as I finish one, I am always looking forward to reading another.
