What He Doesn't Know
(What He Doesn't Know Duet #1)
By Kandi Steiner
Well, that ending was unexpected! I don’t normally write about the ending of a book first, but in this case, I have to. Oh, it was so good, and the twists and turns took me by complete surprise. Honestly, there is nothing better than having the rug pulled out from under you when you’re reading a book. I like to think that I’m pretty good at figuring out where a story is going, but this one had me fooled, and I couldn’t be happier!
I was in the mood for an angst-filled book, and after reading the synopsis and seeing all of the rave reviews for What He Doesn’t Know, well, how could I possibly resist? I love a good love triangle, and this one had all of the elements that I felt would give me exactly the gut-wrenching heartache that I was looking for…and it certainly did.
Charlie and Cameron’s marriage was merely a shell of what it used to be. Their home no longer held all of the possibilities and solace that it once had. They were co-existing, drifting aimlessly in their married life without connecting in the way that a husband and wife should. When Reese, a close family friend and former crush, comes back to town and back into the life of a woman who is feeling fragile and unwanted, life becomes a lot more complicated.
My heart was pulled all over the place with this story. There was nothing easy about the situation that Charlie was in. With every passing chapter and alternating perspective, I felt that I was getting a better understanding of the key players in the novel. Just when I would think that I had them figured out and have a good take on their motivations, I would falter. My emotions ran amok. I felt every emotion that I could possibly feel as I watched Charlie navigate through her rough waters. Oh, and it’s only going to get rougher.
I’m not sure where the story is going to go from here, I don’t know what is going to become of these characters, but I am already all in for the continuation of this story and all of the emotional, stressful, Kindle-gripping intensity that it is sure to have.
