Oh, my heart. Let me start off by saying that this book has found a special place on my list of favorite books. I adored every minute that I spent reading Transcend. I wasn’t very far into the book before I was highlighting like a madwoman and had even cried once. I call that a definite win!
I read Transcend in less than twenty-four hours. Once I began reading it, I was all in, completely invested and committed to seeing where this story was going to go. I didn’t want to put it down, and to be honest, I didn’t put it down very much. I kept telling myself that I would just read one more chapter…then another. I may have neglected a few things that I was supposed to do so that I could keep reading. I may have pushed the clothes down a bit further in the laundry hamper. I may have ignored the dust bunny that had taken up residency in the corner that, strangely enough, looked an awful lot like a smaller version of my dog. I needed to keep reading to find out what was going to happen to these characters that I was already so captivated by. And you know what? The laundry and dust bunny were still there the next day. I have no regrets.
I should probably apologize, but this review is going to be deliberately vague. Trust me, you’ll thank me later. I would love to get into every little detail, spill every passage that affected/touched me, and give you my opinions and musings, but I really don’t want to spoil any little piece of this brilliant book for any future readers.
I am always drawn to books that push my boundaries, test my beliefs, and give me some food for thought. Transcend did all of this. From the first page that had me laughing out loud to the quirky, wonderful, charming characters to the intense, mesmerizing story that had me not only falling in love, but also falling down the rabbit hole, it was everything that I could have hoped for. I had so many questions and ideas bouncing around my mind about what was going on in this story. I was abuzz and filled with anxiety with all of the possibilities, but I was confident that wherever it went, Jewel E. Ann would make the journey meaningful and memorable. She certainly did!
It’s not very often that I finish one book in a duet or series and move right on to the next. I usually like to put another book or two between them just to mix things up a bit, but in this case, I’ve jumped right into Epoch. I wasn’t ready to put these characters aside for a few days. I wanted to stay immersed in their lives and this story for as long as I could. To say that I adore the characters in this book would be putting it mildly. Each of them is so endearing in their own way, and I am completely enamored with them.
This book is definitely a top recommendation for me. I have been shouting my love for it from the rooftops and recommending it to everyone…or anyone who will listen. Read Transcend and let Jewel E. Ann’s exceptional writing and storytelling take you somewhere incredibly special and truly unforgettable.
