Lover Eternal: A Novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood
By J.R. Ward
This is book 2 in this series about a group of vampire warriors. Each book focuses on one of the brothers and his story and quest for love.
This is the story of Rhage. I love the names that the author has come up with for the vampires! Rhage is a gorgeous model-like vampire. His brothers have aptly nicknamed him “Hollywood”, because of his movie star good looks. Rhage likes to go out and have a good time and by that I mean that he likes to get lucky. Rhage is always going out to the bars/clubs in order to satisfy his urges with various women. These are urges that must be met so that so that doesn’t have another kind of release…a deadly one. Rhage was cursed and has a beast that dwells inside of him. If this beast is released, no one around him is safe, not even his brothers.
Mary, who is all human, comes to the vampire compound one day. She arrives with one of her friends and this is how she comes to meet Rhage. He has just had one of his episodes and is recovering from it and he hears her sweet melodic voice and is immediately drawn to her. Mary is a self-described plain Jane. She has had her own battles to contend with, the death of her mother and her own health crisis. Even though she fights off Rhage’s advances towards her, she is attracted to the large gorgeous man.
The battle between the brotherhood and the lessers continues and it is action packed! Mary and Rhage are also having their own struggle, one that could end everything for them. This novel also introduces the readers to other characters who will become important players in upcoming books.
This novel had a little bit of everything for me. It had some humorous parts, action, romance galore, and emotional scenes that had me tearing up.
