I’m Thinking of Ending Things is a royal mind f*ck.  I love a royal mind f*ck.

This is one of those books that you love or hate; and you might not even know why.  Iain Reid had me questioning everything throughout the book.  What was going on?  Is that real?  Why.  Are.  You.  Doing.  That? Don’t go down the stairs!  Okay, that wasn’t a question, but I said it.

Reid tells his story from the point of view of his protagonist, her name?  I don’t know, but I was pulled into her life.  He touches on many different themes:  fear, loneliness, sanity, reality.  The dialogue kept me on my toes, it was normal one minute, then off the wall the next.

Iain Reid’s book would make a great movie.  Keep it simple, it doesn’t need the big name actors, CGI and exotic sets.  It is real and close to home.

Did I enjoy I’m Thinking of Ending Things?  Well, it passes the “I have to find out what the hell is going on” test.  The way I see it, if you hate to put the book down and you think about it when you’re not reading it and you would rather read it than do anything else, it must be good.  It also passes the “Would I want to read more by this author?” test.  Absolutely!  Just give me some time to recover.

If you are looking for a great reset book, one that changes everything and makes you crave your old comfy books, this is perfect.
