This was definitely a taboo romance. It is a romance between a seventeen-year-old high school student and her twenty-eight-year old math teacher. Once I started reading this book I just couldn’t put it down! It’s the whole forbidden aspect, it draws me in like a moth to a flame!

Cadence has always been a good Christian girl who lived by the rules. She makes a mistake, a very big mistake and ends up spending ten months in juvenile detention in what would be her junior year of high school. Heading into her senior year, she is pretty sure that her life is as low as it can go. Her parents don’t trust her anymore, her best friend won’t have anything to do with her, and her reputation is in the toilet. The only bright part of her day is math class. Oh, she isn’t that great at math, but she develops a crush on her good looking teacher, Mark Connelly. He is kind to her and helps tutor her. He doesn’t just see the girl that wound up in juvie…he sees her.

She realizes that this is just some immature school girl crush, but she just can’t help it. She know that it’s wrong, but he is just so nice (and hot). What she doesn’t expect is for him to feel the same way about her. Their relationship develops and it does get pretty intense and sexual. They have to keep everything quiet so that the school doesn’t find out about them. Cadence ends up becoming friends with a fellow classmate/bible group girl and they hash out plans to go out with their boyfriends and cover up for each other with their respective parents. This little arrangement works for a while, but of course, nothing lasts forever.

Secrets come out, people are pushed to their breaking points, and I can’t delve any further into it without giving the story away. I will say that it is a very intense book that may be touchy for some readers. I really enjoyed it and felt all of the highs and lows right along with the characters…..Yes, I might have gasped a few times! I found it to be fast paced and definitely attention grabbing. There is a cliff-hanger to this book, but you will want to know what becomes of Cadence and Mark, or should I say… Mr. Connelly?!
