“Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a world free of bloodshed and war.”
I read this line and I knew that I had to read this book. I love a book that blurs the lines between heaven and hell, good and evil. So I entered the Goodreads contest, and guess what? I won a copy of Days of Blood & Starlight! Problem is…that’s book two. I had to buy book one, but I certainly was not disappointed!
Karou is an art student living in Prague. She has the most unusual family, but they all care for one another. Then one day, her life is thrown into turmoil and she cannot get back to her family. What would you do to be reunited with the ones you love?
Akiva was in love. She was taken away from him. He is consumed with hate-filled vengeance. Can he find peace? Can he love again?
I know what you are saying, “But Greg, Daughter of Smoke & Bone is a YA romance.” Yes, I know that. “But Greg, you don’t read romance…and you definitely don’t read YA.” Yes, I know that too. Let’s be honest, there are some really great YA authors out there, and a great story is a great story.
To put it bluntly, Daughter of Smoke & Bone is a Romeo and Juliet story. Two “people” from different worlds that have a forbidden love. Laini Taylor has delivered an excellent story that leaves you wondering –Who are the good guys? Who are the bad guys? Or could it just be a matter of perspective?
If you like a book with angels and demons, and you like to question what we have been told about good and evil…then I would highly recommend Daughter of Smoke & Bone. I will be reading Days of Blood & Starlight very soon.
