2 Book Lovers Reviews
Reclaiming The Sand is one of the best books that I’ve read this year. I was so excited when I found out that A. Meredith Walters was going to be continuing Ellie and Flynn’s story in Chasing The Tide. It is a beautiful, painful, hopeful, and emotional love story that is as heartbreaking as it is heartwarming. I don’t think that there are any words that I can write down that will properly convey how this book made me feel. Ellie and Flynn are two characters who have definitely stolen a piece of my heart.
A. Meredith Walters has done an amazing job of portraying the complex relationship between Ellie and Flynn. Every relationship has its struggles, but Ellie and Flynn have obstacles that most couples don’t have to overcome. Ellie has had a difficult past. She was bounced from foster home to foster home after her mother abandoned her. She has always believed that she is unworthy of being loved.
Flynn’s Asperger’s Syndrome is something that Ellie has had to get used to. He isn’t like the average man. His life is based on routine, schedules, and predictability. He is brutally honest, he doesn’t pick up on social cues, and he often blurts out whatever he is thinking. But what he does do is accept Ellie for who she is, he shows her love (even though he has difficulty expressing it verbally), and he genuinely enjoys being with her.
When Ellie returns to Wellston, she is faced with mixed feelings. She wants nothing more than to be with Flynn, but Wellston holds many bad memories for her that she would rather move on from. Unfortunately, she realizes that Flynn will never leave his home, his job, or his security. Ellie wants to have the opportunity to reinvent herself, have a career, but she also knows that she wants and needs to have Flynn in her life. Flynn is her source of safety, comfort, and home. He is the only real family that she’s had, but can she live her life stuck in the suffocating confines of Wellston and be truly happy?
“Because I knew that I had finally, after all this time, after the years of searching, found a home, a place to belong, in the waiting arms of the boy who had once, long ago, promised me his friendship. And who now promised me forever.”
Chasing The Tide is well written, beautifully told, and bursting with emotion. It is everything that I look for in a romance book. I couldn’t have asked for a better conclusion to Ellie and Flynn’s story. A. Meredith Walters has created characters that have an unconventional and unique love story, but she handles it with the utmost sensitivity and sincerity. This is one of those books/series that makes me so glad to be a reader!
