We never know what goes on behind closed doors. This saying certainly applies to the psychological thriller written by B.A. Paris. Beyond the beautiful garden, the immaculate home, and the impeccable furnishings and décor live the people who personify perfection and marital bliss to the outside world, but as we all know, looks can be very deceiving.
Grace thought that she had finally found her Prince Charming. Jack Angel was a man that exuded confidence, charisma, and intelligence. He was a successful lawyer who championed in cases of domestic violence against women, he was well-mannered, considerate, and was more than accepting of Grace’s sister. In the early months of their relationship, Jack Angel was the ideal man in every way, but his true colors started to show after they became husband and wife.
The book is told entirely from Grace’s perspective. It is also told in alternating chapters from the present day to the past, allowing readers to see how Grace and Jack’s dream relationship first began and how it suddenly morphed into the nightmare that Grace was living on a daily basis.
Behind Closed Doors is a very fast paced read. I was completely enthralled in the story and needed to find out what was going to happen next. I could feel Grace’s fear and desperation with every turn of the page. I felt as though I was living through it all right alongside of her. It was frightening, unnerving, and a completely plausible situation. That’s what makes these type of psychological thrillers so gripping, they could actually happen in real life.
Behind Closed Doors was an intense, chilling book that kept me frantically flipping the pages until the final page.
