Becoming Calder - By Mia Sheridan

Becoming Calder is probably one of the most beautiful love stories that I have ever read. I was swept into Calder and Eden’s world right from the very first page and felt as though I took the emotional journey right along with them.

This book is unique, breathtaking, romantic, heartbreaking, and it left me completely speechless. Mia Sheridan has written a stunning book that captures the innocence, purity, and essence of young love. I’m not sure that I can adequately express all of the feelings that this book conjured up in me while I was reading it. You know that feeling that you get when you read that perfect book? The butterflies, the heart palpitations, the tension, the anticipation…well, I had all of those…and then some!

Calder lives in a community that doesn’t have any modern day conveniences. They don’t have plumbing, electricity, or tools to make life easier. They have none of life’s little conveniences that we tend to take for granted. They live their lives according to the rules set by their leader, the rules that will allow them to enjoy an eternity in paradise… when that day comes.

Eden was brought to the community as a young girl. She was believed to be a significant figure in the journey to the afterlife. She has only small fragments of memories left from her life as a “regular” little girl. Her life would never be her own. Her destiny was already mapped out for her, even if it was nothing that she desired.

Calder and Eden had a connection right from the first glance that took place between them. As the years progressed, Calder and Eden’s feelings for one another grew. They fell in love. But this love was forbidden. Her future belonged to someone else. With secret meetings, stolen kisses, and growing feelings, Calder and Eden were swept up in a raw, passionate, and all-consuming love for one another.

“I’ve wanted you for so long. So long. Every waking minute, in my dreams, too. I want to bury myself in you, drown in you, and never come up for air. I want you to be mine, and only mine. I’m so sorry, Eden, so sorry -” “Please don’t be sorry,” she breathed out, her head still back. “Anything but that. Please don’t be sorry. I’ll never be sorry. If this is the last piece of heaven I get before I’m dragged down to hell, then I’ll gladly take it.”

What if you begin to have bigger dreams for yourself, the desire to be part of the “real world”? What happens when you begin to question and doubt the belief system that was engrained in you? What happens when you realize that the leader that you respected, looked up to, is not the man that you thought he was?

I fell in love with Calder and Eden’s story. The strength, courage and unfaltering love that they share is amazing. The pain and the suffering that they have to endure to be together, their pure will and determination is incredible.

Becoming Calder is one of those books that left me in a haze once I was finished reading it. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, I was awestruck. It made me smile, filled me with fear, broke my heart, captivated me, and made me believe in the power of true love.

It is a gripping story that will stay with you long after the final page.

*5 Stars* (Although, it deserves much higher than 5 stars!)
