I read What Hides Within as part of a group read. Everyone else loves the book…but I don’t. I was starting to ask myself, “Self, what the heck is wrong with you?”

The book starts out great…Clive (our hero) is in the doctor’s office with a little voice inside his head telling him to “kill the doctor”. I thought, now this is great, a dark horror with murder and gore! Then it went in a completely different direction.

Don’t get me wrong, What Hides Within is a well written, well thought out book. Jason Parent put a great deal of work into weaving his intricate web, and it shows.

What didn’t work for me was that the sales pitch didn’t match the product delivered. I was promised “the story of a man held captive by an unknown evil.” What I got was a silly little spider dancing on his nose.
