This book did everything that a Colleen Hoover book always does… it made me feel. I knew that it was going to be an emotional read, her books always are. With a title like Ugly Love, how can you expect it to not put you through the wringer, tear at your heartstrings, and leave you emotionally spent?! This is why I love her books so much, you don’t just sit down to read a Colleen Hoover book, you experience it and live it right along with the characters.
I knew that everything in my house was going to get dropped the minute that this book arrived at my doorstep – it was inevitable. I started reading it and got pulled right in. I read it late into the evening and despite my fatigue, I would say to myself, “Just one more chapter." You know it’s bad when your son comes into your room at one o’clock in the morning to tell you that it’s time to put the book down and turn out the lights!
The characters in the book were imperfect and “real," and it was so easy to become invested in their lives and to care about them. As always, she created a cast of characters that are unique and likeable (even if you wanted to shake some sense into them sometimes). I am now a believer that every woman should have an eighty year old man for a best friend!
If you are looking for an easy romance that is instant and perfect with birds chirping and choirs singing… then this might not be the book for you. This book is intense, heart wrenching, and painfully beautiful. The writing is superb, amazing and poetic - my one regret is that I bought the paperback version of the book and I couldn’t highlight anything!
