Agent Ethan Burke wakes up, he can remember very little about his life and who he is. The idyllic town of Wayward Pines slowly reveals itself to be more than meets the eye.
I felt a little bit behind the times with this one, everyone and their dog has read Pines. Well, it is easy to see why. Pines is a fast- paced action book that drives the reader crazy trying to figure out what the hell is going on. The time lines are fubar and everything about this quaint little town is off…way off.
Blake Crouch has written what I think is one of the best chapters ever written. Ethan Burke has escaped from the hospital and the most incredible chase scene has begun. During this chapter we only begin to see what is really going on in Wayward Pines, yet nothing is completely revealed.
The only real problem that I had with Pines is the “explanation” of what is going on. Like so many other books / TV shows in this vain, the plot is so crazy and twisted; when we are finally presented with the explanation it is a little bit of a let-down. As a reader, I tried to imagine more, but I couldn’t put anything together that worked. It makes perfect sense…it just leaves you feeling, “Oh, so that’s what’s going on.”
Pines is a fantastic, fast-paced book and I am eagerly looking forward to books 2 and 3.
