Mega 2:  Baja Blood

 By Jake Bible

It was two years ago that I read Mega by Jake Bible.  I was in the mood for another fun, fast and furious ocean adventure.  What could be better than a return voyage with Team Grendel on a new and improved Beowulf?

After finishing Baja Blood, I had to go back and take a look at my review for book one.  There are a lot of things that can change in two years:  my expectations among those things.

Bible still gave me a great cast of characters and an inventive storyline.  Everyone was over the top.  Almost every character was an alpha male; hell, even the women were alpha males.  This is the type of thing that I expect from a book like this, it can be great fun.

But I had an issue with Baja Blood.  Honestly, I don’t recall if it was there with Mega, but it really insulted me with this book - the carelessness of the author and publisher.  This book needed, and did not get, some basic copy editing or proofing.  I don’t expect perfection, but you should at the very least make it look like you tried.  Spell check won’t find everything, but “on” instead of “no” is kind of basic.  Using the wrong character’s name was another issue.  At one point in time, they were uploading data to the Beowulf II, that ship sank in book one, sorry for the spoiler.  And for the love of God, keep consistent, if it’s going to be “Just Darby” then it can’t be “just Darby” later on the same page.

Jake Bible is a creative storyteller.  He wants to be financially compensated for his work, as he should be.  Please don’t insult your audience with all of this carelessness.
